The one Year Journey to A Better Life. I hope I can inspire you to get on this journey with me.
Phase One
To change our lives, we must understand what we want and be clear about what we don’t want. So that means we must know where we are coming from and where we want to go. So where am I coming from and why do I want to take this journey? My name is You-Seline, and I was born an Ayiti and moved to SWFL at about seven old I feel like I have been on a journey ever since. Having to leave my homeland was a complete shock and a bit confusing. It was confusing because I never understood why, nor did I see the need for an exodus. Children don’t usually understand grown-up things. I was fed never hungry, I had freedom and friends. However, the economic and political issues created instability, that affected the whole nation unfortunately there has been no change. As an Ayisyen American I hate Exodus once you get on that path of exile it can become a vicious cycle. Fleeing from a situation is a band-aid and not a real solution. Starting from the bottom is truly hard, especially for an adult. I arrived in the U.S. with my mother and sister at the time my father was living with his brother. My parents didn’t really speak English my father’s background was farming and my mother was mostly a homemaker. So the type of jobs my father started off doing were farming and dishwashing. My mother was a homemaker then worked as a housekeeper later became a CNA. Now that you know a little bit about my parents. So let’s talk about me. We know that education can change a person’s life. My first experience with education was at a private Catholic school in Ayiti that my parents paid for. I left like I wasted their money, I spent more time being redirected to use my right hand instead of my left. I was a lefty and still, I am a lefty. I couldn’t help myself no matter how much they corrected me that left hand always picked up the pencil. So when I started school in the U.S.A. I didn’t speak English, though I was picking it up pretty fast. I was in classes with the ESOL students they mostly spoke Spanish and there were teachers and staff members who spoke Spanish. Since I didn’t speak English fluently and there wasn’t a budget to hire a translator for one student. The solution was special education. And that was the beginning of a neglected education. A few years later they hired a Creole-speaking translator. But I was already a part of the special education squad. Plus the less I learn the more I belong there. Let’s fast forward why do I want a completely change for the better I want a better life because I simply do and I believe in myself. I can get all deep about this but the short answer is I want it. I don’t believe in settling nothing good has ever happened to me by settling. I would rather live without certain things than settle on certain things. That is my philosophy. First, let me give you the warning that life is always changing. But for life to change for the better we have to become intentional about the choices we make. Your life is not going to change for the better because of luck. Matter of fact luck is not in the cards for some of us. We must change our lives for the better because that’s the only choice we have given ourselves.
Today is decision Day circumstances will happen, and the cards you’ve been dealt with are probability, not the best but be determined. I decided to win. You don’t get to choose where you start but you can choose where you are going.
Phase One We Are establishing where we have been, and where we want to go. And who we have to become to get there.
